About Voltrift

Four people, one rule: nothing publishes until somebody here has finished the thing. We started Voltrift because we were tired of reading opinions formed at a preview event.

How we score

The number is written last, after the review is done. It describes the game we played, not the game it might become after a patch. Every review lists hours played, and we re-score publicly if an update genuinely changes the answer.

9 – 10Reorganises your week. We'll be arguing about it next year.
7 – 8Clearly worth your money, with a flaw we name plainly.
5 – 6One good idea and something in the way of it.
3 – 4Broken, thin, or dishonest about what it is.
1 – 2We finished it so you don't have to.

The desk

  • Mira Vance — survival, sims, anything with a resource counter. Fifteen years of it.
  • Dez Okafor — tactics, horror, art direction. Writes the long ones.
  • Roan Petty — racing and input hardware. Owns too many wheels.
  • Kit Brannagh — edits everything, plays nothing, catches every mistake.

Money

Hardware is bought at retail. Games are bought unless a publisher sends a code, and we say which is which at the top of the review. No affiliate links, no sponsored scores.

Corrections and pitches

If we got something wrong, tell us and we'll fix it in the piece with a dated note at the bottom — no quiet edits. Freelance pitches are open for guides and hardware; send two paragraphs and a link to something you've written.
